Bushnell Township Montcalm County, Michigan

Privacy

What this website collects, what the township uses it for, and how long it is kept.

Reading the site

You can read every public page without giving your name or signing in. The site has no advertising and no tracking from outside companies, and it sells or shares nothing about its visitors.

The township counts how many times each page is viewed, and which words are typed into search, so it can tell what residents look for. Those counts are kept on the township's own server. They do not use cookies and do not store your internet address.

Cookies

  • One cookie keeps a form you are filling in, or your sign-in, working from page to page. It is deleted when you close your browser.
  • If you tick "Keep me signed in on this device" when you sign in to a resident account, a second cookie remembers that on that device. Signing out removes it.

Landfill voucher requests

A request asks for your name, the address of the property, a phone number and, if you want a reply by email, an email address. To show the property is yours you give either the property tax ID or a photo of your Michigan driver's license.

  • The township uses these only to check the request against its records and to answer you.
  • A license photo is stored where the public website cannot reach it. Only signed-in township staff can open it, and each time one does it is logged.
  • The photo is deleted as soon as the voucher is issued or the request is denied. The rest of the request is kept as a township record.
  • The email telling the township a request has arrived never contains your address, tax ID or photo.

Resident accounts and email alerts

An account holds your name, email address and, if you add them, your address and phone number, so that a voucher form can be filled in for you and you can see your past requests. Your password is stored in a scrambled form that the township cannot read.

If you ask for alerts, the township emails you when it posts a notice or schedules a meeting. Every alert has a link that stops them, and you can change or close your account from My account.

Messages and records requests

The contact form and the public records form ask for your name, an email address and your message. The site also records the internet address a message came from, to hold back automated junk. Messages go to the Township Clerk.

Public records

Bushnell Township is a public body. What you send it, including through this website, may be a public record that others can ask to see under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act. The Act lets the township withhold information of a personal nature where releasing it would be a clearly unwarranted invasion of privacy.

Links to other sites

Links to the State of Michigan, Montcalm County and map directions open those organizations' own sites, which have their own privacy practices. Nothing is sent to them unless you follow the link.

Questions, corrections and removal
